People often talk about the Okavango Delta — its beauty, its wildlife, and its unique atmosphere. But being there in person is something else entirely.

From above, you see winding water channels, green islands, and shifting light — it’s like looking at nature in motion.

On the ground, the Delta feels calm but full of life. You might spot elephants moving silently, lions almost invisible in the grass, leopards resting in trees, and birds calling from all directions.

What makes the Delta special is that it brings water — and life — to the middle of a dry region. The seasonal flood transforms the whole area.

Flying over the southeast of the Okavango Delta was pure magic🤍🇧🇼

After three unforgettable nights at Mokolwane Lodge, part of the @naturalselectiontravel, I found myself in the sky, looking down at one of the most magical landscapes on Earth – the Okavango Delta.

Located in northern Botswana, the Okavango Delta is one of the world’s largest inland deltas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unlike most river deltas that flow into the ocean, the Okavango spills into the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert, creating a lush, life-giving oasis that shifts with the seasons. Every year, the floodwaters arrive from Angola and slowly transform the landscape – turning dry plains into sparkling wetlands, attracting an incredible array of wildlife.

We stayed in the southeast of the Delta, where the flood was just starting to arrive. From the helicopter, we could actually see the water slowly creeping in – a mesmerizing reminder of nature’s rhythm. Flying over the Delta gave me a whole new perspective. We spotted elephant herds, gliding through the landscape like ancient guardians. And as we hovered over the exact places where we had our most incredible wildlife sightings just days before, it all came flooding back. The experiences, the emotions, the beauty.

The view from above was so beautiful and raw, it moved me to tears.

This whole journey was made possible by @actually_africa, who helped organize every detail and made sure our trip was not only seamless but full of soul. Thank you for making this dream adventure a reality.

If you ever get the chance to fly over the Okavango Delta, take it. The scale, and the sense of connection to something much bigger than yourself – it’s something I’ll carry with me forever.

Meet Xudum – a stunning female leopard we had the privilege to observe in the wild. Known for her agility and stealth, she moved gracefully through the bush, leaping from tree to tree with ease.

Leopards are solitary, elusive, and mostly active at night. But on this day, Xudum treated us to a rare daytime sighting. At one point, she even caught a small bird for a quick snack before retreating to a tree for a long afternoon rest.

Our unforgettable experience took place at Mokolwane Camp, a secluded retreat operated by @naturalselectiontravel , located in the heart of the Xudum Concession in the Okavango Delta. This area is known for its exceptional leopard sightings and incredible biodiversity — it also happens to be home to the Natural History Film Unit, where productions like Netflix’s Living With Leopards were filmed.

During our stay, we even spotted the film crew at work — a rare and exciting behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of high-end wildlife documentaries.

Witnessing Xudum in her natural environment, surrounded by the untamed beauty of Botswana, was not only awe-inspiring, but also a powerful reminder of how vital it is to protect these habitats.
